Friends,

March 20th marks the first day of spring this year. Whether the Maryland climate gets the memo remains to be seen, but here we are regardless.

If you’ve been with me for a while, you know the backbone of my programming/class planning/practice is the fluctuation of the natural world. Read on for more about the winter-to-spring transition, but first let me share something exciting:

MY OCTOBER 2026 RETREAT IS ABOUT TO GO LIVE.

I’m not quite ready to reveal it, but a couple of hints to tease your curiosity:

  • exclusive access to a gorgeous waterfront mansion

  • daily yoga, breathwork, and rest/relaxation time

  • a 6-person sauna overlooking serene water views, plus a hot tub and cold plunge

  • on-site massage therapist who will also offer red light therapy and AmpCoil treatments

I’ll be sending it to the newsletter and launching it on my website NEXT WEEK! To ensure it gets to your inbox (and is not sifted down by the various algorithms that run our comms these days), respond to this message (even if you just send a random/unpopular emoji).

Love, Liz

FROM WATER TO WOOD:

TRANSITIONING WINTER TO SPRING

Water descends / wood rises

Spring is coming, whether the outside temperatures are aware or not. My allergies have started already and there are cute little buds on the trees outside my window.

I love the visual of the water element’s season (winter) giving way to the wood element’s season (spring): water feeds the seed, the stem breaks through to seek the fire (summer) ahead.

moving in all directions helps us β€˜clear out’ for spring

❝

All is restored with life at the beginning of spring. That which is found within us in winter surfaces and wants to come forth in the full bloom of spring.

Elson Haas, MD

What can this mean in our yoga practice?

  • spring cleaning - flossing the joints, opening up the lungs with pranayama and clearing the sinuses

  • breaking through the winter shell (our home) and going outside / to more communal activities (group classes, workshops, and retreats)

  • moving from the yin/low (water, hips, restorative, folding, reflecting) into the rise of yang for spring (warrior poses, standing balances, more vigorous practice)

You’ll get a taste of all of this in my classes this spring season. I can’t wait to see you!
